The Research Team


Professor Joe Proietto is the inaugural Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation, Professor of Medicine, in the Department of Medicine Austin Health, University of Melbourne. He is a world renowned investigator of the genetic and biochemical causes of obesity.  Professor Proietto established one of the first obesity clinics in Victoria at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and now heads the Weight Control Clinic at Austin Health. He is a past president of the Australasian Society for the Study of Obesity.


A/Professor Alison Nankervis is an endocrinologist in the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Diabetes Service at The Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. Her clinical interests focus on type 1 diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy. She is the Immediate Past President of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society.


Professor Michael Permezel is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology based at the Mercy Hospital for Women and the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre. His research interests are in Perinatal Medicine including Gestational Diabetes, Preterm Labour and Fetal Surveillance.
